40 Years of Resistance | Mike Africa Jr.’s Fight for Justice After MOVE Bombing

By Black Men Build May 13, 2025

Approaching the 40th anniversary of the MOVE bombing, Black Men Build NYC hosted a conversation with author and activist Mike Africa Jr. Born in a jail cell and raised within the MOVE organization, Mike shares his decades-long fight to reclaim his family home, destroyed by Philadelphia police in 1985 and to expose the truth behind one of the most violent acts of state repression in U.S. history.

Mike reflects on the government’s targeting of MOVE, the fight to free his imprisoned parents, and how the legacy of resistance continues today. “On A Move” isn’t just a story of survival, it’s a fight for justice against a system built on violence and erasure.
