Originally recorded on 5/17/22
Historical Context: Niggas With Guns, the title of this Mass Call is a play on the Robert F. Williams book, Negroes With Guns published in 1962.
Dawg, it’s complicated being Black. Ever since there’s been a visible upsurge in school shootings in suburban America and a visible resurgence of muddle-headed white supremacists, people have started to talk more about Black gun ownership. And as Black folks we have a complicated relationship with the second amendment in this country.
Our ability to carry and own firearms has been systematically suppressed since before the United States was even a country. As we have navigated the pandemic and the terror that has continued to plague our communities from outside forces, personal and community protection is on a lot of our minds.
This Mass Call features Danielle Campbell (National African American Gun Association), Kalonji Changa (Black Power Media), and Hiram Rivera (Black Men Build Coordinating Committee Member)
