WHY DO WE HAVE A MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM_

Black Men Build believes that building and attaining power is the only way that Black people will ever be able to shape our collective destiny. We must do the hard work of bringing our people together to get organized towards our goals. Developing a strong and active membership is at the core of Black Men Build’s power-building strategy.

We are building the kind of membership organization that our communities need: one that is committed and rigorous.

MEMBERSHIP PROCESS_

The start of building power for Black Men Build is through Membership and Dues.

The more Members that join our ranks, the more organized people we have. The more organized people that we have, the more organized resources we can bring in through dues. Collectively, members and leaders within the organization will determine how to use dues at our annual Re-Up Meeting. This process is crucial to our power building process.

MEMBERSHIP STRUCTURE & RANKS_

Being Members of the Black Men Build comes with responsibility. That is what it means to be organized. We want to make sure that you understand and are committed to the values of the organization. Below, we have listed what it takes to become an Affiliate and a Member of our organization. We have also detailed what it takes to start a Black Men Build Hub in your city.

Being a Black Men Build Affiliate is a step to Membership in the organization.

We have created this step because we do not believe in lone wolves. There is no such thing as a solo activist or movement influencer, these people are opportunists and should be watched. Therefore, the Affiliate is for all people that want to join Black Men Build but do not have a Hub or a Chapter in their area. Affiliates should be working towards creating Hubs so they can become full Members of the organization.

Below are the specific benchmarks that someone must meet to be considered a Black Men Build Affiliate.

  1. Signed the Black Men Build Values Pledge
  2. Recruited Nine Brothers (Who’ve Signed the Black Men Build Values Pledge)
  3. Attend two Black Men Build Virtual Mass Meetings
  4. Attend the Black Men Build Orientation*
  5. Pay dues:  $99/year

Black Men Build Members are an important measurement of our power in the cities we are in and for the organization as a whole.

What we can do as an organization will depend on both the quality and the quantity of the Members we have. Being a Black Men Build Member means that you are connected to a Hub or Chapter and you have completed all the benchmarks of an Affiliate. Members of the organization will be allowed to vote at the Black Men Build Re-Up Meeting on what we do with our collective dues.

TThe Black Men Build HUB is a place for Black Men Build Members to transform themselves as men through service to their communities and themselves. The HUB is the nerve center for our Organization; serving as the eyes, ears, feet, heart, blood, hands and mind of our work. It is where our Power lies. Our Black Men Build HUBs must represent the present and the future of their city and must be a place where Men are transformed through service, circles, organizing, and fights for the lives that we deserve.
